OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - Working Conditiion

Sweatshop Conditions

Down narrow, prison-like corridors, they sleep in cramped rooms in triple-decked bunk beds to save space, with simple bamboo mats for mattresses.

Despite summer temperatures hitting 35 degrees, with 90 per cent humidity, there is no air-conditioning. Workers say some dormitories house more than 40 people and are infested with ants and cockroaches, with the noise and stench making it difficult to sleep.

When looking at these poor conditions I instantly think of the camps during the World War, although those conditions/treatment in the camps were completely inhuman and nothing will ever compare to them, this overall treatment should be completely discarded of especially considering we're in the 21st century.

Considering the workers can just up and leave whenever they want, this is still a massive struggle for them as they do not receive any form of benefits to support their search. They are merely trapped in a disgusting situation, probably for the rest of their lives.

These big corporate brands have 0% sympathy and 0% appraisal to their workers for the wage received and hours done does not match up to what they should be receiving.

Complete exhaustion of the workers to make a company flourish in profit leading up to unquestionable amounts. Amounts that could solve world hunger. To a certain extent, the owners of these certain brands aren't too far off from being as bad as Hitler himself.

As shown these window fences have been put up in order to prevent suicides. The way I see it is that if even one person commits suicide you would look into preventing that emotional distress in other ways like upping the hourly wage or less hours, not fences!
