OUGD505 - Studio Brief 2 - Poster Development

Previously capturing Peter Saville style has allowed me to follow a similar layout. His style grabbed the attention of the audience. Mainly because his style was unique, aside from that they were successful in layout & the colours used communicated the factory theme. This particular style would convey the industrial side to the sweat factories in my designs, the hazard strips also playing a part within the interior of some of these garment factories, as they are used to keep the aisle clear. It also having a sense of entrapment towards the workers.

Having looked into campaigns on 'workers rights' has given me an understanding of what style is suitable to the cause. What I have noticed with the research is that they do not perform aesthetics within their websites or overall design. They're far too formal and less visually engaging, which I believe is important to capturing the eye and sucking them into more information on the cause.

From the inspiration of Peter Saville I have created a series of poster, exploring a variety of layouts to influence a completely new style to campaigns. The Idea is to create an engaging aesthetic that will take your attention from distance, Yellow being the most noticeable colour from a distance. Involving the two colours also implies a form of 'Construction' or 'Hazard'.

Workers rights is something which needs construction in the sense of applying a law to prevent the inhuman conditions which these cooperate brands place onto their workers. Sweatshops are hazardous, as 1,100 deaths have been recorded in the garment industry due to excessive hours. A psychological issue with workers has also been a massive issue in the industry resulting in suicides.

The overall design is to create awareness & to bring caution to the industry (Caution Sweatfactory, do not work here

Making the target audience aware of the things that go on within these factories will hopefully allow people to be more aware of the brands they purchase clothing from.
