Talking to Nike’s Knight About ‘Entrepreneurial Edge,’ Worker Abuses Are Beyond the Pale
http://www.alternet.org/labor/talking-nikes-knight-about-entrepreneurial-edge-worker-abuses-are-beyond-pale
Billionaires whose wealth was built on the work of people in less developed countries making cents an hour in notoriously abusive conditions—practices only curtailed after years of activism, much of it by students the company did its best to ignore—well, their concerns about the pessimism of today’s youth warrant a side-eye on any day.
just a few months ago, Nike announced that it will no longer allow its factories to be monitored by the Worker Rights Consortium
Noi Supalai worked for years in a Nike factory in Thailand; on her spring US speaking tour, she talked about what that’s like: 16 hours or longer days, production deadlines such that workers had to take turns going home to shower, and then, when targets weren’t hit, Nike barring the factory from paying them.
Topic - Awareness & Aim
Create an anti-campaign against the highest listed brands out there such as Nike, Gap, and Primark. Billionaire companies treating their workers like they're not worth anything which is expressed through abuse and poverty involved in the garment industry. Sickening conditions which have caused an unpleasant amount of deaths in the garment sector.
My Aim is to generate an awareness of the garment industry as it is known for its poor working conditions and deaths involved. People should consider looking into brands before purchasing. As the people manufacturing the product earn such little amounts in comparison to the product once sold.
