OUGD505 - Evaluation

This module has allowed me to have a deep understanding of the concerns in everyday life. As a designer, I was able to perform by working in a different area which has helped me step out of my design style. Not having done a campaign before allowed my thought process to be in-depth on the topic. As studying the subject on worker rights allowed me to be aware of life's surroundings and to be able to visually communicate something that helps the situations. Projecting awareness to the audience in order to make a change to policies in the Sweat Factory industry.

Throughout this module, I have understood areas of design strengths which are digital. Although my Screen print brought out a more traditional side which I do not visit often, doing so allowed me to enjoy the given brief and will definitely be making use of the printing facilities more often.

Completing the module has also made me aware of some areas of self-improvement that needs to take place in order to perform within the 3rd year. Organisation is something I lack in most which provoke a bit of a lost feeling within the module. Eventually overcoming that during the module in using notes more often and ticking off daily tasks.

Overall this module has alerted me of the working conditions that continue to happen throughout the poorer countries. Being able to create a campaign that would fight a cause in hopefully establishing change within society makes me content on being a designer. This approach has allowed me to enjoy designing all material distribution especially in taking indepth research to the colours & signage theory of the caution elements.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence To Print - Final Outcome

I noticed with my final outcome I couldn't screen print the low opacity circles that are held within the background. It could've been a possibility but it would have meant to create another screen as well as having a translucent white ink.

Although my stock turned out to be see through I had made it grey within development to allow me to recognise certain elements of my design. Although it is still just as effective in grey stock, see through enables my concept to link to the visuals within Tron.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence to Print Money - Development

Gathering digital typeface which would work hand in hand in the futuristic look that I'm trying to execute. The initial idea was to use percentage as a form of when out of money, as my concept was meant to be expressed through a battery source. This however sided away from the money aspect, so following onto the pound sign as that is the where I'm born. To also consider that as a country we are most likely to be one of the first to make change in the financial aspect
I began to create various shapes that linked back to the research gathered on interfaces. I wanted to visually communicate a sense of movement through the cut of sections of the shape.

The colour scheme provided relates back colours in Tron as their are 2 sides to leadership within the film. Blue expressing a more pure side where as orange & black being aggressive & intimidating side

First development was to apply the contactless visual feature as well as the amount of money stored on the card. The continous line communicates the connect it'll need in order to remain functional as a card.

This development consisted on getting the layout in order as shape & line was the only feature within my money. Because my design is futuristic which is influenced by the film Tron, its visual aspects cuts back to the bare minimum to bring a sense of minimalism. Incorporating an electrical feel to the card in which is conveyed through the use of blue beam lines that are involved within the film

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence To Print - Contactless

Contactless payment systems are credit cards and debit cards, key fobs, smart cards or other devices, including smartphones and other mobile devices, that use radio-frequency identification (RFID) or near field communication (NFC) for making secure payments.

The contactless feature (RFID) would be applied to my Futuristic Card, the security wouldn't be the same as only being able to spend £20 a day. The card will contain a fingerprint recognition so you can use as much as you need too in a much faster way.

Everything would be paid for by the contactless feature which will be a lot more eco-friendly, reducing the amount of paper & coinage used worldwide.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence to Print Money - Hologram Visuals

The use of geometric form used within this Logo opener would be something similar to the futuristic concept. The energy used would be charged by solar. The visuals would also provide a forgery barrier by code.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence To Print - Futuristic Visuals

The futuristic visual research gathered has allowed me to explore an idea within the shape of my concept. All these interfaces Ive found all suggest that blue is a futuristic colour. Taking that element forward within my development will help provide a visual communication of its futuristic aura.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence To Print - Tron Legacy Research

The neon lighting involved within this design explores an idea of what the future could possibly end up looking like. Once earth resources are completely used up we'll have to find other ways of fueling life.

The energy beams used in this film would be a possible feature that would only require one power source.

Hologram visuals are also something we're currently looking into. 3D human figures, screens etc. To merge contactless, energy, holograms and finger recognition would be an ideal outcome of our futuristic Money.

Tron Legacy - Watching Tron gave me an overall visual of how I wanted to construct my concept, the shape and colour used within is something I'm interested in applying to the development.

The Neon blue in the film is to create a futuristic aura which also communicates energy. These features will be applied to my development stage as my Concept Is mainly to do with using a source of energy to pay for items rather than earth resources

Shape within Tron is something I had a high interest in, its geometric style is something which is applied to most my designs.

When looking into futuristic interfaces they usually consist of just shape and movement. So to consider using the shape in development would best communicate the futuristic aura within my concept.

The digital like typography used within Tron is something I'll consider, It's particular style is something that will complement the futuristic look that I'm going for.

Futuristic Money

My Concept

Energy money ( requires battery, the battery being powered by the solar panel ) It will come with a dock which will charge the energy visuals, the dock being connected to a bank account so you can place funds onto it

Rather than taking your bank card out which has all your funds on it, Hold a futuristic note that can store an unlimited amount of money on it. Use it like contactless but requires owners fingerprint.
  • No need for loose change
  • Preserves earth resources
  • Security of money
Note appearance being all blue, Use of geometric shapes & numbers.

Glow in the dark ink would be suitable for the futuristic look.

Tron legacy visuals would be a similar look I'd want to go for, to take an in-depth approach to the visuals within the film would be appropriate in giving me an idea of what shapes are used. This will allow me to construct a geometric style and to merge that with a futuristic concept may create an interesting resolution.

After Looking at Behance for various designs this particular note caught my eye. Being highly interested in the geometric shapes and how everything is visible  within the bank note. Although there is a lot going on in the design.Taking inspiration through the layout and shape throughout this note has enabled me to understand what would be appropriate to involve within my banknote. To incorperate a geometric style would develop an interesting resolution, especially when applying it to a theme.

The only problem with this design is that it has been done digitally so to pick up the different tones within the design would almost be impossible done by analogue print

For his master’s thesis at the Basel School of Design in Switzerland,
American designer Travis Purrington gave US currency a top-to-bottom,
front-to-back overhaul

Instead of presidents, Purrington's bills are based on systems.

The black-and-white drawing of a bucky ball, here, is the building
block of the skyscraper, found on the other side of the $10

Blood cells that make up our circulatory system are on one side
of the $20. A body of water, which also keeps us alive, is drawn
on the other side.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 1 - Licence to Print Money - Research

Having researched into different currency designs as enabled me to understand that a lot of the designs are based on traditional aspects of each country.

For instance the Nepal currency in which the traditional leaders portrait was replaced by Mount Everest. To enforce a mirror of the political change from kingdom to republic.

The little detail involved within the texture of the money allows me to think its there for forgery reasons (security) In comparison to my concept this technique is slightly traditional in its security but from taking into account that there are payments of apple pay which require some form on identity before accessing, to incoperate a similar feature within my concept will be an appropriate idea to use finger recognition within my Note/Card

In 2007 (and in a revised version in 2012) Napel

A Scandinavian traditional style which features historical figures and pattern. The colours involved suggest a contemporary note.

This last edition of Suriname’s Gulden were created in 2000 to reflect native flowers and birds. Despite the beauty of these notes, they were short-lived. The Surinamese Dollar replaced the Gulden in 2004.
