OUGD503 Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Jack Garratt - Research

  • My nights are broken up by the sounds of women I’ll never meet
  • The right side of my bed has always left me feeling stuck in between
  • Pick apart the pieces you left

Looking back at the previous cover to me the illustration came across outdated visually as the illustration looking slightly pixelated & dull. The image communicated well to the song 'worry', as for the dark figure seems to be in some form of distress, relating back to the name of the song. My perception of the song is that Jack is talking about cutting someone off to let them go because you love them so much but you're just doing it for yourself because we're all very selfish. So relating back to the figure & the name worry it is visually communicating that selfish ways can create loneliness

Pulling out various words in the song allowed me to construct a variety of visuals "by the sounds of women I’ll never meet". In comparison to the mountains above the sound waves have similar rough features. To merge the two together could create an interesting outcome which would represent the emotion within the song through the tone of voice and the roughness of the vocal waves

When looking further into the patterns of sound waves the idea behind it interested me, this mainly because the vocal pitch is rather abstract in its wave pattern, whether you have a lower or higher pitch voice as well as words involved will determine its shape. Therefore creating a voice memo that represented a certain sound such as the lyrics of the song or even the title of the song 'worry' could be effective as the concept and visually.
