OUGD405 Studio Brief 1 Design Process - Frame Research

I first looked into actual frames that you can buy from stores such as Wilko IKEA and what they have used as a backing paper theme as i wasn't to sure. I noticed in older frames shapes and patterns were used, but I'm guessing they thought it would be more appealing to see what an actual image would look like within the design of the frame itself.
For my frame shape I think I'll go with a rectangle just because to me it seems like a more modern approach rather then circular as that reminds me of a more Victorian style.
I'm quite keen on the style of having loads of frames placed together that has one big image within all frames, if I was to use that style then I think I would have to select the biggest paper size that our brief has to offer as the frame itself would take slot of space up.

At first this kind of frame reminded me of those jewellery Lockets and instantly reminded me of Victorian portrait or old fashion pictures of family's

This frame to me is far more appealing then the others as it is unusually different, I think it is a more upto date design being able to place various pictures inside, aswell as placing just one picture that fits all frames which is a more current style of today.
I would be interested in taking this frame design further seeing if my backing paper designs suit an look unique as a whole.

For the backing paper design I have thought of a theme I could possibly pursue that being 'The generation of Today' the typical looks such as the one i am approaching that being the Beards, Tattoos & short back an sides.
The theme sprung up only because Im personally trying the beard look

The Research I'm gathering is mostly based on beards & tattoos relating it to "The generation of Today'
and the humour around the subject. This research allowing me to get a perspective of the layout i'll be approaching as well as the elements i'll be using within the design to make it look contemporary to suit my target audience and retail choice.

I like this modern looking design towards various uses of type and a simple silhouette of the beard aswell as the layout, I also think the texture within the type is very effective giving off that westen style look, as within that day an age I'm not sure they saw it as fashion but preferably the fact that shaving wasn't as simple then, to how it is now.

Target Audience

I like the idea of placing a few designs in this Bookstore that is based in Leeds, only because i have already visited this store that gave off this Edgy feeling, As well as the owner having a very long beard himself, I believe to think that the kind of target audience would be between a young adult & middle aged them having a keen interest within the creative industry, so the design I would approach would be fairly humorous and appreciated as modern design.
This allowing me to find my place of retail as the interior design looks modern as my approach to the backing paper designs are also modern looking.
I know this isn't somewhere that sells frames but i could picture books and frames being a reasonable pair within the store.

Urban outfitters would also be another relevant retail choice as they also tend to get humours edgy products as the interior is all about standing out and looking different from other stores, meaning getting strange products to attract a broader amount of people. from what I've seen when being in the urban outfitters store is that they have a lot of jokey items and from there it caught my attention an now I've always had a keen interest in the store.

I think my designs are quite humorous relating it to the whole 'generation of today' concept i had and a lot of people of our age shop at urban outfitters, I personally believe people that shop there are always edgy and indie usually having tattoo, pircings and beards.
