OUGD403 - Final Alphabet Crit

I thought it would be interesting to connect the points up with lines as that also communicates movement quite clearly, it became quite entertaining joining the dots up.
its slightly irrelevant but something more could arise from it

I called my typeface Geo-circuit because as a fully developed alphabet it reminded me of a circuit board, the original concept of this design came from two already created posters which i found on Pinterest, not to say i have just copied but taking fewer elements out of the poster to then reassemble my own typeface, those elements were things such as the circles at the end of each outline, the other was the missing space from of the outlines.
The reason why i came towards this particular design from the other 10 initial designs is that it appeared so much more unique and compelling to me, the others seemed to simple although this one is simple but it just looked so divergent.
When having the constructive criticism the majority of the group narrowed my decisions down to two.
I already favoured this design from the beginning so when it was within crit choice i immediately went to develop it.

When i completed this design it came to my attention that as well as communicating Movement it also conveyed Mechanical, but taking a long look at it from the circles allowed my eyes to follow the end point of the outline, that instantly corrected movement, not only from eye movement but also the point is a position and the end outline is the destination for the electricity.
Creating this typeface has giving me so much more skills and inspiration within typography and in working in adobe illustrator. I think if i was ahead of time with this brief i think it would of been highly interesting creating lowercase, symbols and numbers, if possible i will approach this in my spare time.

When approaching a grid system in order to make my typeface consistent I created a much simpler version on top of the original helvetica's grid.
How i created this simple grid was merely by bringing up the cross bar of the A then from there every other letter which consisted on having a cross bar aligned with the A. I tried to keep it as legible as possible as i noticed when creating missing outlines it was almost impossible to make out which letter it was, so that was top priority of designing this typeface.

Because my typeface looks Mechanical and looks slightly spacey I went an placed my geo circuit typeface in front of the INTERSTELLAR movie image. I personally think it works well based on the futuristic look it holds, the circles that are at each end of my letters also blend in with the stars behind, they could also represent other planets to.
