OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space - Evaluation

Entering this competition was fun because I worked with website templates, something which I haven’t done much this year but really enjoyed doing in second year. I also had the opportunity to use my own work as demo content and place the finals on mockups. Creating web, tablet and mobile mockups is something I have experimented with for a long time, but not fully taken into consideration of the distinctive layouts / screen dimensions until now. Trying something new came as a challenge, but a comfortable one. I felt that visually using my own work as demo content helped me understand and communicate the aim better by reflecting back and questioning what it is that I would want from a website as a designer and creative, to get hired. I enjoyed coming up with page sections and felt the overall website easily allowed user to inform others of their practice. There are 3 pages: the about me, the projects and the content page. Although the outcome is fairly realistic, I feel like I could have done better by adding more interactions. However the software I used to design the web Experience Design, has a lot of limitations when it came to being creative and using cursors.

OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space - Mockup

OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space -Final Outcome

OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space - Development

By taking the sketch into Experience Design to create an interactive portfolio to give me an accurate outcome &
give me an understanding of how the application works. Linking the tabs to the correct page & placing relevant
content on each one. Experience Design was fairly easy to use but is limited in what you can link up. I wanted to make the scroll as an interaction but couldn’t quite figure it out, the same with linking the socials together.

I’ve gone with Kenyan Coffee & Helvetica for the default typefaces. These can be changed but I’ve used them as
they’re my personal favorite & this template involves me as the example. Black & White is also default as I wanted to make the template simplistic but customizable.

OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space - Wireframe Sketch

Firstly Developing a wireframe as a quick visual understanding of layout & content involved within each slide.
About | Project | Contact

I believe these are the only relevant tabs for a designers portfolio. Involving more then it needs becomes overwhelming
and complicated. The template will need to be usable for everyone. From a personally perspective I’ve had great
difficulty in the past with a clothing templates. Simple & basic will be my approach. The Home page will
involve your personally logo or background image. Sliding down will bring you to the last 3 projects.
About will include a profile picture 3 of your strongest qualities and a brief description of yourself.

Contact will be through email, website & number. If you have online blogs of work then you can also access through
the socials at the bottom.

OUGD603 - Brief 07 - Square Space - Brief

What to consider with your design

• Consider all elements of your template, from the user experience (UX) to user interface (UI).
Refined typography, responsiveness, grid layout, parallax, iconography, link states and button behaviours, transitions, navigation, sidebars and footers, background images, colours and banners should be precise and work as an overall design system.

Design a new Squarespace website template for designers and creatives to showcase their work and get hired. This isn’t about creating a single, beautiful website. It’s about establishing a cohesive vision and design system which users can populate and customise to express their own creativity. It needs to reflect where the web is going, bringing together classic conventions and modern trends for a unique portfolio design.

OUGD603 - Brief 06 - Secret Sessions - Design Boards

OUGD603 - Brief 06 - Secret Sessions - Evaluation

With this being a a brief I want to take forward further than this module, it was crucial to consider every aspect of making this application a reality. From the target audience, to the marketing considerations and visual aesthetics. Targeting students and supporting local dj’s enabled me to build on my networking skills. Through it, I have contacted with a lot of people around Leeds and became a part of the house party (events) community. On top of this, I worked closely with Paayal and Danny for the first time on a University project. Working collaboratively with people who have different skills really helped spark creative conversations and debates. Even with different thoughts and opinions, we complimented each other well. Trying to merge different tastes and styles really proved successful in our outcomes. This is something I initially thought would have been hard. I learned that communication in is KEY. This project has brought me closer to my interests within the music industry, as music is something I feel heavily influences my practice. Throughout the year I have been in contact with event managers (become one myself now too), music agencies, artists clients and researched a lot into the practice of music. All of this has allowed me to gain a good amount of knowledge of the industry. This brief really allowed me to uncover a lot about up and coming dj’s and introduce myself to venues I have never considered before. Although every part of this was rewarding, and having learned a lot from time management in previous briefs, I can now say I truly understand how essential it is to put a cap on time when it comes to creating more than one outcome.

OUGD603 - Brief 06 - Secret Sessions - Event Night

Because it was sponsored through our Euphøria page the online presence for the event became busy. A lot engagement which allowed us to have a successful night with a head count of 100 people!
After hosting this event the Euphøria page gained at least 15 likes, putting us upto 828 in total!

Photography

Danny took shots on the night & edited them in black/white to give off that night time party feel, also to the fact that you focus more on what's relevant rather than bright objects in the shot.

Whilst we waited for Danny to do the Videography.
Paddy Holly DJ had gotten his own videographer in to capture a promo video of himself which has been linked back to Euphøria: Secret Sessions giving us extra recognition until we post the our branded video

OUGD603 - Brief 06 - Secret Sessions - Splice App

Whilst waiting for Danny to construct the Videography & Photography of the night, I created a little sneak preview of what to expect and to get people hyped & aware of the Euphoria brand.

Taking 3 videos from my phone I was able to create a 1.30 video of the DJ's/music & vibes.

When developing the video I considered where each clip belonged by using the trim tool, this allowed me to sync the crossover sections to the rhythm of the crowd's dance flow.

Effects used in app,

Audio fade out | Blur fade in/out | Cut/trim

Placing Secret Session at the beginning of the footage to make people aware of the new extension to the Eupøria brand. This is also placed at the end of the clip 'Euphøria Events'

OUGD603 - Brief 06 - Secret Sessions - Visual Research

For the Promotional side, I've taken are more minimal approach when gathering material such as the research below, to apply a past/modern touch to the development. Making use of composition & considering select
amount of appropriate colours to match the 70s disco/funky theme.

My thoughts of visuals would to simply involve one specific visual element that would communicate the 70s era,
  • Vinyl
  • Disco Ball
  • Glow sticks
